Description: Trying something different for open segmented turning. Thanks to my mentor Bruce Friederich. This the first of three that did not end up all over the shop. At lot of splinter and glue repair during and after cutting off the lathe. Grain direction of supports is were I am having problems. Comments welcome

Twin Vase

Description: I intended these two vases to be twin well they are at least brothers. They are about 13" high and 7 1/2 inch wide. The wood is Curly birch, Purpleheart, Walnut. I made them to stand on small tower each side of my 50" Tv. One of them was made last winter and had a picture of it here the other I made it this summer.

Description: Two cherry and tiger maple vases that stan 171/2" tall and 61/2" at the top. the vase on the left unfortunately came off the lathe and is smaller than the one on the right. but was able to save it.

Tim Hortons Inspiration

Description: Made from Curly Maple, Ebony, Holly, Blood Wood and Mahogany. Approx 14.25 Inches Diameter * 15 Inches Tall. A Total of 673 Pieces. This is the Largest Turning that I have done to date, I sure learnt a lot along the way. Either side of the Ebony Chevrons in the Feature Ring are Blood Wood Chevrons, these are difficult to see in the Picture, as are the Blood Wood inserts in the Ebony Square in the Feature Ring. Throne for a Grandson

Description: I displayed this at the Hartford Instant Gallery, but it was missing something. Abbott is 14 months old. The woods are Oregon myrtlewood and California claro walnut. The chair was turned about 22� in diameter and 22� from end to end and the seat is the cut-out replaced in reverse position. A flat section was also removed to create the base. The foot stool is about 14� in diameter. The four ends are �floating� panels and everything was finished with water-based poly. As always, all comments are welcome.

Our Wounded Soldiers

Description: Approx. 7" tall. Lacewood with points of purple heart to honor our wounded solders. The points are bordered with red, white, and blue of our flag. The top represents a puddle of blood with a drop falling into it (bloodwood). This piece was used to cover balance weights in the 1st State Turners 1st place technical piece called Tilting at windmills aat the Hartford symposium 2010.

Description: Woods: Bubinga, Figured Maple, Bloodwood and Wenge Size : 8-1/4" tall x 7-5/16" wide x 3" thick This project offered a few challenges, one of which was to how to compensate for wood movement differances between the top and the bottom sections. To accomplish this I ran the grain direction of all pieces used for the top in the same direction as the rest of the vessel. All comments welcome.

Description: Lacewood and black walnut. I now realize Malcom is a genius. Getting an edge of a second wood to match up is very difficult to get lined up in the final project. I also ran out of lacewood and had to get more that did not match.I have not given up on segmented turning but will not do another ribbon. Smile!

Description: I haven't had much time for turning lately-and I'm not really good at actually finishing anything before I lose intersest, but I made myself stay on a project before my can of lacquer dryed up. I got the idea of the 'open' design ring from some of the beautiful work here lately that kinda mixed them up in one way or another. But I like this piece mainly for it's dynamic form and bold colors. Originally it wasn't supposed to have a base but I'm gonna enter it in the Ky. State Fair and needed it to be more stable (which is probably better-I like delicate foots, but this was a bit extreme-even for me). anyway-it's curly maple, wenge, bloodwood and yellowheart-about 13'' tall and 14'' or so wide and a lot lighter than I thought it should be-I guess it's because of the air holes, eh. any comments always welcome-thanks-Robin
