Thanks Malcolm, Here's how I make the curved surfaces. The radiuses are roughed in on the band saw by cutting them a little over sized on the convex pieces and a little undersized on the concave parts. The final sizes are created by forming the concave surface first using a sanding drum on a drill press. These are available at many woodworking stores and come in a number of sizes. A fixture is mounted to the drill press table that holds the work piece and guides it into the rotating drum. The convex portion is made by drilling a ¼” hole into the work piece that becomes the pivot point. A fixture is mounted to the table of a disk sander. This has a groove in it that runs perpendicular to the disk. A stick slides along the groove with a vertical ¼” pin in one end that the hole in the work piece slips over and rotates on. The other end has an adjustable stop that is set by trial and error to get the piece to the correct radius. A very close tolerance can be achieved using this method.

Craig, it's my turn to choose a new "photo of the week" and I went back looking at earlier postings. Your bowl displays consistent grain alignment with a design where it might have been easier to accept cross-grain joinery - good for you. Your feature ring is different and therefore perhaps more interesting, your joinery looks very good, and there's certainly nothing wrong with the form. With all that, and a nice job with the photography, it's my pleasure to bring this piece back to the forefront.
