Seats Available
Does anyone know how many seats are still open for the event? I am torn between going and buying a new lathe. As of right now I am not sure I can afford to both. So I am just waiting to see how much time I might have before I have to make the big dession.

Carl, I don't have the latest numbers, but quite a few people have registered. I'd guess that you have at least a month before things start to get dicey.

Malcom,
Thank you. I have been saving for this new lathe for some time now, but I really want to go to this event as well. Just not sure which one I want the most right now.

Carl, I sure understand the new lathe vs. symposium feeling. Between the cost of the symposium, travel, hotel and wife bribes I'll be spending around 50% or more of what is needed for the new Powermatic I want or 25% of the Robust I lust after. I'm going to the symposium. Maybe some talent will get beat into my thick skull and I'll be able to use my Nova 3K to at least 50% of it's capabilities. Then a new one might be on the horizon.
When I first decided to look into woodturning Ruth Niles guided me along. One comment she made really stuck: "all a lathe does is spin the wood around, anything beyond that is simply bells and whistles". So if you aren't able to do something because of your current lathe can't handle it then maybe choose the lathe. On the other hand if a new lathe will just make it easier or allow large turnings I think the symposium is the way to go.

Stuart,
Your words make allot of sense to me. I currently own a mini lathe which to this point has been a great for what I do. My largest project to date has been 10" & nine rings, but I have been wanting to do something larger. Since this large bowl was at the max to turn on my mini lathe I started saving for a larger lathe. A number of things have stopped me from getting my lathe since I retired from the Navy in JAN 09, new roof, new windows, new A/C unit and now we need a new drive way and I might have to use what I have saved for that vice a new lathe or the trip.
I sound like I am complaining, maybe a bit, but at least I have had the money to fix all these things since I retired and I did not have to go back to work or like many others no job and a means to do these things. The LOL says we can get the lathe & go on the trip, but I keep looking at the drive way and we still have 8 windows to replace. Lucky for me my wife LOVES my turnings and so does everyone else on both sides of our family. In fact, LOL was pretty upset when I mentioned that we might not go to TN, I just have to convince myself of it now.
Thank you for the words of wisdom & advice.

Will there be confirmations sent out for paid registrations, also will there be confirmations from Arrowmont for their rooms, the contact did not know when I booked?

Carl...First, thanks for your service! I didn't retire there, and only served a few years, but have a great deal of respect for those that stick it out.
I look at turning as therapy. It's gotta be one of the most rewarding, and relaxing pastimes...not quite up there with fishing, but close So when you talk about turning, think of it as visiting your therapist...and a LOT cheaper.

Gordon, you should have received a "thank you" message from PayPal after registering. The lodging is between you and Arrowmont. I would think that they would confirm just as any other lodging facility.
