Bio
Doug started turning in 2007. He was introduced to segmented woodturning in 2017, and has been doing mostly segmented turning after attending the 2018 St Louis Segmented Woodturning Symposium. Since retiring Doug spends his time in his shop working on segmented projects, golfing and traveling. Doug is active in his local AAW chapter, in the Segmented Woodturners forums, and is happiest when in his shop or discussing, learning, and sharing segmented woodturning techniques and knowledge.

Lost Wood or Sacrificial Segmenting - In this session Doug Drury will explain what lost wood/sacrificial segmenting is, and a brief history of how the technique was developed. Doug will then present a history of his experience using the technique and adaptations that he has incorporated. Doug will share his failures, successes, challenges, solutions, and innovations while talking about design considerations, things to watch out for in making lost wood pieces, and a new method that does not use hot melt glue (a method that will be presented for the first time at the symposium). At the end of the session, attendees will have a better understanding of how to create a successful sacrificial segmented vessel without it turning into tiny bits of wood scattered all over the shop.

Simple Open Segmenting - Think you can not do open segmenting because; it is too hard, it is too complicated, you need specialized super accurate jigs, you do not have that much patience, your turning skills are not good enough?
Doug says HOGWASH to all of that. Join Doug where he explains (in simple to understand words) what open segmenting is, what is important, and what is not. In 90 minutes Doug will make a really simple jig, glue up, and turn a simple open segmented bowl. It does not get any easier than this. If you have basic woodworking and woodturning skills, you can do this!
