Gerry Jensen

Robin

Bio

Gerald Jensen refers to himself as the "accidental turner". He never did any turning (or any other woodworking) until he started thinking about retirement. He signed up for woodworking classes at a local tech school, and the instructor introduced him to a lathe one night. After three hours of turning beads and coves on a scrap of 4x4, he was hooked. He joined an AAW chapter, attended the Saint Paul Symposium, and found a mentor in his local club who introduced him to segmented turning. He is a charter member of Bay Lake Woodturners in Green Bay, earned a certificate in woodturning from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, and teaches woodturning (including a workshop on segmented turning) at his alma mater.

Presentations

  • So, Your Better Half Wants a Yarn Bowl - Demonstration will cover fundamental design considerations for a yarn bowl, including floating base design and execution. We'll also deal with ring assembly, including a jig that may make gluing up rings a little bit easier. We'll demonstrate cutting the 'J' slot (with a router), and answer the question "What are the 2 holes by the 'J' slot for?". We'll talk about sanding & finishing requirements, take a look at the "Nostepinne" and talk about why you want to turn one!
